Microsoft's head of Windows leaving company

By Michael KitchenMSFT

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Microsoft Corp. MSFT -2.12% said late Monday that the head of its Windows division was leaving his post, effective immediately. Windows and Windows Live President Steven Sinofsky was leaving the company, with Julie Larson-Green, who worked on the development of Windows 7 and Windows 8, promoted to lead all Windows software and hardware engineering. Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Tami Reller was to take over "responsibility for the business of Windows," the company said in a statement. Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said: "As I looked at the technical and business skills required to continue our Windows trajectory ... it was clear to me that Julie is the best possible person for this job." The shake-up followed last month's launch of Windows 8, with The Wall Street Journal reporting that "Sinofsky's sudden departure is likely to raise questions about the success of Windows 8 and about his relationship with" Ballmer, and quoting unidentified people close to Microsoft as saying Sinofsky suffered from an "inability to collaborate with other senior executives."

A money problem worse than the U.S. fiscal cliff?
Commentary: Going over the "cliff" may help U.S. public finances, reduce the deficit and slow the rise of America’s debt mountain, writes Satyajit Das. But, it won't solve deeper financial problems.

My opinion of extended unemployment benefits is that they should expire.  If you continue to pay someone not to work, where is the incentive to get a job?  There should also be a drug test to qualify for unemployment since your can't get a job if you can't pass one!

We have been electing presidents every 4 years, but it never brought any change to our country's financial system. Both SEC and Fed are run by wall street crooks. When people like Bernanke are reappointed, you can immagine what is going on here.We would never have had this situation if there was little commonsense left in the regulators back in 2005. They were warned by FBI and IMF, and several European nations about the impending crisis, which was caused by unhealthy deregulation of our financial markets. In the end everything was wiped clean by tax-payer dollars. Billions of our savings were used for the so called "Economic recovery". A lion's share of those went to wall street banks, and made sure that their top execs made millions in compensation when rest of the country was struggling to recuperate from the worst decions made by feds & SEC to send Lehman brothers to bankruptcy. This is is the one and only reason for our tripled debt. And those who lobbied and created this mess are handed over with key Gov't jobs year after year, President after President. The wall street has corrupted our government and systems so much that it now seems impossible to pass any regulations to control the market. Last year alone the lobbyists spent $5 billion for their activities. This included paid articles by eminent professors from harvard (are we paying high tuition fees here to learn how to cheat system and people?), even when it was clear that everything was a bubble back in 2008.The entire wealth of people of this county is with a few wall street giants like Goldman Sachs, BofA, Chase, and Wells Fargo. These institution are intricately networked, if one fails everything else will follow. Unfortunately there are no circuit breakers put in place, nor is that I see anything coming up in the future. The bigger question for American public is will we ever have a Govt. brave enough to say NO to wall street? Brave enough to put down strict regulations against stealing people's money by wall street crooks? Until that happens, we will continue to have fiscal cliffs and market meltdowns. A Govt that is too stingy to spend tax-payer dollars for education and healthcare, have no problem giving billions to save wall street hedge funds and banks. As a citizen of this great nation, I feel extremely sad and equally helpless.

The Federal Housing Administration is expected to report later this week that it could exhaust its reserves because of rising mortgage delinquencies, according to people familiar with the matter. That could result in the agency needing to draw on taxpayer funding for the first time in its 78-year history.
